May is National Bike Month, and it’s is a great time to get on the bicycle and get in some exercise! It was released in conjunction with the sprawling 1995-96 Olympic Commemorative Coin set honoring the 1996 Summer Games in Atlanta, Georgia. The 1995 Cycling Dollar features three cyclists alongside the iconic Olympic Ring insignia on the obverse, which was designed by John Mercanti. The reverse, by William Krawczewics, depicts two outstretched hands grasping each other under a stylized Olympic torch alight in flame.

The Denver Mint struck 19,662 examples of the 1995-D Cycling Dollar in business-strike format, while the Philadelphia Mint produced 118,795 specimens in proof finish. The coin was sold to the public by the U.S. Mint in various packaging formats in the mid-1990s, and it still enjoys a collector base among those completing modern commemorative coin sets as well as those who pursue Olympic-themed coins.
