May is National Bike Month, and it’s is a great time to get on the bicycle and get in some exercise! According to the Cleveland Clinic, riding a bicycle offers a multitude of benefits, including the improvement of strength and flexibility, bolstering of coordination and balance, opportunities for a multipurpose workout, and better mental health. Biking is also a fantastic social activity, and when used for transportation, it can even help reduce carbon emissions.

Of course, be sure to consult your doctor before taking on a new physical activity, and always wear a helmet when riding a bike. And why not consider reaching out to your favorite PCGS Authorized Dealer while you’re at it? After all, you can also honor National Bike Month by adding the 1995 Cycling Dollar to your coin collection.

It was released in conjunction with the sprawling 1995-96 Olympic Commemorative Coin set honoring the 1996 Summer Games in Atlanta, Georgia. The 1995 Cycling Dollar features three cyclists alongside the iconic Olympic Ring insignia on the obverse, which was designed by John Mercanti. The reverse, by William Krawczewics, depicts two outstretched hands grasping each other under a stylized Olympic torch alight in flame.

The Denver Mint struck 19,662 examples of the 1995-D Cycling Dollar in business-strike format, while the Philadelphia Mint produced 118,795 specimens in proof finish. The coin was sold to the public by the U.S. Mint in various packaging formats in the mid-1990s, and it still enjoys a collector base among those completing modern commemorative coin sets as well as those who pursue Olympic-themed coins.

All cycling enthusiasts should also consider this an open invitation to add these coins to their collections, whether or not they are active coin collectors. And anybody with a PCGS Set Registry membership will find many opportunities across various set categories to add the 1995-P and 1995-D Cycling Dollars to their collections.
