January 11 is National Arkansas Day! Known as “The Natural State,” Arkansas boasts a plethora of beautiful attributes that make it unique in so many ways. This southeastern state bordered on the east by the mighty Mississippi River and nestled between Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma, and Missouri is known for its gorgeous lakes and picturesque state parks, bountiful fishing, a booming culinary scene, and rich musical history.

Arkansas was admitted to the Union on June 15, 1836, to become the nation’s 25th state and play an important role in the history of the United States. It served as a theater for the Civil War in the 1860s, a backdrop in the Civil Rights struggle a century later, and was the birthplace of 42nd president Bill Clinton, who was commander in chief of the United States from 1993 through 2001.

The state has also been featured on a number of U.S. coins, including the Arkansas Centennial Half Dollars (produced from 1935 through 1939 in two types), the 2003 Arkansas State Quarter, and the 2010 Hot Springs National Park Quarter. While the Arkansas Centennial Half Dollars of the 1930s are considerably scarce coins worth hundreds of dollars apiece, the circulating 2003 and 2010 Arkansas Quarters are still readily available – they can be had for as little as face value if found in pocket change.

PCGS Set Registry collectors who want nice specimens of the more modern quarters might have to pony up more than 25 cents a pop for nicer examples, which can be quite tough in the upper Mint State grades, while the proof specimens and the five-ounce silver bullion version of the 2010 Arkansas National Park Quarter will best be found by a PCGS Authorized Dealer who specializes in such material.

No matter what your taste in coins, there’s most likely a suitable option available for those who wish to numismatically pay tribute to the great state of Arkansas – and a PCGS Registry Set or three with at least one slot offering germane accommodations. So go get your Arkansas coins at the gettin’ place – as some might say – and start plugging away at a set sure to make any proper Arkansan proud!
