HIT LIST 40 MORGAN VAMS

The "Hit List 40" are the third installment in VAM (Van Allen-Maris) varieties for Morgan Silver Dollars. After the "Top 100 VAMS" came the "Hot 50", which included some interesting rarities but which were not quite the "arms-length" varieties that populated the "Top 100."

The "Hit List 40", developed by Jeff Oxman in cooperation with the Society of Silver Dollar Collectors, includes subsequent discoveries and other rare and unusual varieties. This group includes some Pitted Reverse Dies, several clashmarked dies, lots of doubled dies, and great nicknames such as "Wild Lips", "Stick Feather" and "Comet Variety."

This is a very advanced set. Of the 15 participants on the PCGS Set Registry (as of July 2011), only one person has completed a set of Hit List 40 VAMs. Three others have achieved 97.5% completion, but only five others have collected more than 50% of the required varieties.
