Mother Earth has four seasons throughout the year, and spring is one that blooms wonders. Van Cleef & Arpels’ bloomed its Lucky Spring Collection in 2021, highlighting mother of pearl plum blossoms and onyx/cornelian ladybugs set in 18-karat gold. It’s a common sight to see ladybugs and butterflies during the springtime floating around. The first day of spring in the Northern Hemisphere starts on March 19, 2024, at 11:06 p.m. Eastern Time, and it’s referred to as the vernal equinox.

Vernal, in its simplest translation, can be defined as “occurring in the spring.” If you live in the Southern Hemisphere, then this day marks the beginning of the autumn equinox or the autumnal equinox. At this moment, the approximate time of night and day are split equally into 12 hours each and the sun is crossing over Earth’s celestial equator, or the imaginary line that splits the Northern and Southern Hemisphere into two equal parts. The spring equinox will be the best time to plant marigold flower seeds that will blossom into similar flowers that are displayed on the 2022 Austrian 10 Euro coin.

Spring signifies the end of winter and generally the beginning of warmer temperatures. Agricultural planning starts in the spring due to favorable weather conditions to plant seeds in soil that can be easily tilled. Springtime also brings us spectacular looking flowers that can also be fragrant. One of the most fragrant flowers is the night-blooming jasmine, which will take your olfactory sense into a sensory overload. Or, it may cause a bout of hay fever, naggingly common during spring and prone to turning my eyes red with allergies. But I like flowers. One of the most beautiful sights to see during the springtime would be the cherry blossom in the United States. On March 27, 1912, Japan sent 3,020 cherry blossom trees to Washington, D.C., to strengthen diplomatic relations between the two countries. The following day, First Lady Helen Herron Taft and Viscountess Chinda, who was the Emperor of Japan’s wife, planted two cherry trees. The peak time to view the cherry blossoms coincides closely with the vernal equinox in late March.

Spring brings the melodious sounds of birds, buzzing bees visiting numerous flowers, and blooming buttercups. The sun shines more in the springtime than the wintertime, and so many of us look forward to more pleasant weather in general. This is also the season when Spring Fairies arrive, and they are known to use their magical powers during the day to brighten the landscape. Fairies will be floating around with the butterflies to wake up the flowers, heal injured insects, and help the birds build their nests.

Maybe if you’re lucky enough, you’ll spot the Spring Fairy, as shown on the 2016 Van Cleef & Arpels’ 10 Euro silver coin above that was struck by Monnaie de Paris. When the day is over, nighttime begins, the Spring Fairy turns into the Tooth Fairy, and she delivers coins to all the kids that have put their teeth under their pillows. She is busier than a bee!
