The FUN Show held In January in Orlando, Florida, is always an exciting event, as it’s the first big coin convention to kick off the new year. In a typical year, over 1,500 dealers attend and set up shop at the show offering a plethora of great coins. Thousands of collectors also attend the show, with major auctions held in conjunction with the event also offering some exciting coins.

Heritage Auctions is currently offering numerous high-caliber coins for auction. In particular, Heritage Auctions is selling a special set of Morgan Dollars, all mostly with PL or DMPL designations. The set is from the PCGS Set Registry named The David T. Miller #1 PCGS Registry Set of DMPL/PL Morgan Dollar Varieties. This set has been methodically built with some impeccable coins to say the least. Finding Morgan Dollars with PL or DMPL surfaces is almost impossible for many dates and mints, yet, Miller has managed to obtain some of the finest examples available for almost every date and mint of business-strike the various Morgan Dollars.

Some of the highlights from the David T. Miller Set of Morgan Dollars being offered by Heritage Coin Auctions are an amazing key-date 1893-S Morgan Dollar graded PCGS MS63. This coin is a real stopper in uncirculated grades, with only 10 graded examples graded by PCGS in MS63. The last example listed on PCGS CoinFacts auction database shows that the last PCGS MS63 example was sold in 2015. Therefore, it’s been about nine years since an example in this condition has appeared at auction. This coin is definitely going to get a lot of attention and garner many bids from different collectors. It should be a fun auction to watch and keep an eye on.

Another FUN auction highlight is yet another Morgan Dollar from the David T. Miller set: an 1881-CC Morgan Dollar graded PCGS MS67+DMPL. Now, how this coin even exists in this wonderful condition is a mystery in itself. This coin is over 140 years old, and to remain in this grade with DMPL surfaces is just amazing. This example currently has a population of 1 in PCGS MS67+DMPL, with no other examples grading higher. This example, as well as many other coins from the set, should attract some strong bidding.

Collectors can also view all the coins from the David T. Miller Set of Morgan Dollars at PCGS.com in the PCGS Set Registry. Once there, visitors can see every single coin from the set professionally imaged and displayed in a large PCGS TrueView background.

Another interesting coin from the sale is a mule 2001-D Lincoln Cent obverse with a Roosevelt Dime reverse. In general, mule errors are rare, and it is very difficult or almost impossible for these rare coins to be struck and escape the U.S. Mint, especially with their many strict procedures in place to prevent these types of errors.

Yet over the years, some very interesting and rare mules have surfaced. When they do, they usually capture wide numismatic attention. Such is also the case with this 2001-D Lincoln Cent obverse with Roosevelt Dime reverse mule graded PCGS MS66RD, which is being offered by Heritage Auctions at the January 2024 FUN Show.

There are many other great coins being offered at the FUN Show this year, many of them offered by Heritage Auctions, and viewers can see or bid on the coins online. After this sale takes place, we should be able to get a good gauge of where the coin market is headed as we amble through the early months of 2024. But from the looks of it so far, some phenomenal coins have come out of the woodwork and really strong prices are already being bid on many of the coins at the ongoing 2024 FUN Show Heritage Auctions event.
