Series: Patterns - MS
Stylistically, this copper version of a 1794 Half Disme has been called a transitional piece between the 1792 Half Disme and the officially-issued 1794 Half Dimes. The obverse features a head of Liberty with flowing hair facing right, the word LIBERTY above and the date below. This die lacks the stars that were added to the regular-issue half dimes. Similarly, the reverse employs an eagle with its wings outstretched, but lacks the wreath employed on the regular-issue coins, and it includes the denomination HALF DISME, which did not appear on coins made for circulation.
The only known example resides in the National Numismatic Collection at the Smithsonian Institution. The two pieces listed in the PCGS Population Report (XF45 and XF40) were most likely Judd-15.
