Ron Guth:

Judd 17 is a copper die trial of a 1795 Half Dollar (Overton 117). After striking, the coin was cut-down and used as a planchet for a 1795 half cent, Cohen 6. Only one example is known, although more may be discovered in the future as collectors examine their overstruck half cents more closely.
