Ron Guth:

Thanks to some different-sized punches, 1835 Half Dimes come in at least four different, major varieties:

Small Date, Large 5C. Small Date, Small 5C. Large Date, Large 5C. Large Date, Small 5C.

Of these varieties, the Large Date, Large 5C is the most common (by far), followed by the Small Date, Small 5C, then the Small Date, Large 5C and the Large Date, Small 5C (these two are of approximately equal rarity).

The 1835 Smalll Date, Small 5C Half Dime is relatively scarce in Mint State, but can be found in all grades, mostly in MS-64, but even as high as MS-68 (in fact, this variety is among only four dates in the entire series representative at this extremely high level).
