Jaime Hernandez:

Any Classic Head $2.5 Proof Quarter Eagle is rare and the 1839 is no exception. In Walter Breen's Encyclopedia of U.S. Coins, he mentions there are no Proof 1839 $2.5 Classic Eagles known to exist. A few years later, Marc Emory indicated he handled four different examples all within an 8 month period, sometime between 1981 and 1982. Undoubtedly a very important coin that few collectors will ever get an opportunity to own.
