Jaime Hernandez:

The 1840 Small over Large Date Large Cent is a fairly prominent variety and can be spotted with the naked eye. Especially on the 1 and 8 digits in the date. The variety in general is very scarce with possibly a couple hundred known more or less. In Uncirculated grades it is very difficult to obtain and will command a premium in this condition.
