Ron Guth:

Researchers have identified only two Proof 1844 Quarter Eagles. One example resides in the National Numismatic Collection at the Smithsonian Institution, making the second example the only possibility for someone seeking a Proof of this date. The second example passed through the F.C.C. Boyd and John Jay Pittman collections on its way to its appearance in a Heritage sale in April 2015, where it sold for $211,500.
