In 1846 the U.S. Mint struck the 1846 Large Cents with three different style dates. There was a Small Date, Medium Date and the 1846 Tall Date. The Tall Date variety appears to be in the middle, as far as rarity from the other two varities. Since the Small datei s the most common and the Medium date appears to be the scarcest.
