David Akers (1975/88): The 1870 is a very scarce coin in all grades. Strictly uncirculated specimens are very rare and are, in fact, just about as rare as the proofs. The 1870 is more difficult to obtain in AU or Unc. than the 1869 which has a comparable mintage.
