Judd 1152 is often referred to as a die trial or off-metal strike in aluminum using the regular dies of an 1871 Seated Liberty Silver Dollar. However, Saul Teichman of uspatterns.com believes these were made for sale to collecors as part of off-metal sets of the regular coinage of the year. Regardless of its intended purpose, Judd 1152 is an extremely rare coin. Teichman knows of two examples; we know only of the PR67+CAM example (illustrated above) from the Simpson Collection.
