David Akers (1975/88): Description: Obverse. Identical to J-1570. Reverse. Similar to J-1570 except that there is no motto above the eagle.

Comments: This pattern is the fourth and last of the anticounterfeiting designs that was actually struck in gold. The only known specimen was offered in the Farouk sale as lot 316. As was the case with J-1570, the piece was miscatalogued and was attributed as AW-1555 which is the copper trial piece without periods and without motto. The piece realized 200 Egyptian pounds or approximately $574.00, a figure in line with that realized by comparable gold patterns in the sale. The purchaser of the piece and its present location are unknown to me.
