Ron Guth:
1903 saw a continuation of massive mintages of Dimes, particularly at Philadelphia where mint machinery cranked out 19.5 million of the small silver coins. This was more than the mintages of the Quarter Dollar, Half Dollar, and Dollar - combined. Thus, 1903 Dimes are very common in all grades and offer a good option for type buyers. In Mint State, the majority of the population ranges from MS62 to MS64. Gems are similarly plentiful and the 1903 Dime becomes super-rare only in MS67.
The strike quality for this date is excellent, so collectors should seek out (and be prepared to pay a premium for) coins with exceptional eye appeal and color.
