Ron Guth:

Louisa Adams was the wife of John Quincy Adams, the sixth President of the United States. She has the singular distinction of being the only first lady born outside of the United States.

The front of the Louisa Adams First Spouse coin features an image of Louisa Adams, adapted from a late 1880s engraving by G.F. Storm, itself adapted from a portrait by C.R. Leslie.

The reverse shows Louisa and her young son, Charles, in front of an arched portico. This scene is meant to represent the journey Louisa and Charles took across Europe when they relocated from Russia to Paris. It remains unclear whether this was an actual building and where it is located.
