2016-W 50C 100th Anniversary Gold (Special Strike)

The 2016-W Gold Walking Liberty Half Dollar was struck to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Walking Liberty Half Dollar, first struck in 1916. The obverse and reverse of the 2016-W Gold Walking Liberty Half Dollar has the same depiction as the 1916 Silver Walking Liberty Half Dollar. However, the 2016-W Walking Liberty Half Dollar is composed of 24 karat gold. The Silver Walking Liberty Half Dollars were composed of mostly silver content and were made for circulation. While the 2016-W Gold Walking Liberty Half Dollars were only sold to collectors.

The 2016-W Gold Walking Liberty Half Dollars were officially released by the U.S. Mint on November 17, 2016. Each 2016-W Gold Walking Liberty Half Dollar had an issue price of $865, if purchased directly from the U.S. Mint. The U.S. Mint imposed a three coin limit per household. The maximum authorized mintage was set at 70,000.
