Heritage Auctions will be offering several significant collections in their Long Beach Expos U.S. Coins Signature Auction February 8-11, 2024. One of the offerings is the Brighton Collection, encompassing a plethora of high-caliber United States coins. Heritage Auctions described the collection as, “a trove assembled over 60 years with a focus on high-grade Buffalo Nickels, Walking Liberty Half Dollars, and Standing Liberty Quarters.” The Brighton Collection is mainly composed of higher-grade examples ranging from MS65 to grades higher. The Brighton Collection has a total of 82 coins being offered by Heritage Auctions at the February Long Beach Expo. It should be an exciting event, as Heritage Auctions will also offer many other great coin collections consisting of some spectacular coins. The auction has coins that will appeal to almost all collectors.

1879 Seated Liberty Quarter, PCGS MS67

One of the highlights from the Brighton Collection that caught our eye is an 1879 Liberty Seated Quarter. This issue has a relatively low mintage of 13,600, which is considered a miniscule output, especially for a circulation-strike coin. What makes this particular 1879 Liberty Seated Quarter special is that it is way above “average” uncirculated – PCGS MS67. Although hundreds of examples of this issue exist in Mint States, few are known in MS67 or higher. This specimen has tremendous eye appeal with extremely attractive gun-metal toning.

1918/7-S Standing Liberty Quarter, PCGS AU58

The 1918/7-S Standing Liberty Quarter is one of the most prominent overdates in numismatics. The “7” and “8” digits are prominently overlapped and very easy to spot. Most examples that survive are in lower-circulated grades. Examples in higher AU and Mint State grades are scarce and command strong prices. The example being offered by Heritage Auctions at the Long Beach Expo is graded PCGS AU58, and it’s an attractive coin with some great details.

1915 Buffalo Nickel, PCGS MS67+

The 1915 Buffalo Nickel is not a key-date coin by any means. However in higher uncirculated grades it is a very scarce piece, especially in MS67+. PCGS has graded only 18 examples in MS67+, with just two examples grading higher. The example being offered by Heritage Auctions looks practically flawless. The obverse and reverse of the coin also have very clean fields. Additionally, the specimen has an overall sharp strike and extraordinary eye appeal. It’s a coin that should make its new owner extremely happy!
